California Breast Reduction

Reduction mammaplasty otherwise known as a breast reduction, is a procedure to remove excessive breast tissue and reshape breasts to be more propionate to the body. Very often, the reasons for having this surgery are not cosmetic. Many women suffer from neck and back pain, skin irritation, even skeletal deformities or breathing problems from excess and heavy breasts. Bra straps can leave indentations on the shoulders. General discomforts such as these are all unfortunate realities for women who exceptionally large and heavy breasts.

A California breast reduction procedure can alleviate these issues. It can also alleviate the self-consciousness that is often experienced by a large and heavy chest. The first step you are going to take for this surgery is to come in for a consult. During the consultation you will meet directly with our medical director. At this time he will examine, measure and possibly photograph them so he can reference back to them after surgery. In some cases, rather than removing tissues below the skin a California breast lift will provide a better match for your needs. The doctor will help determine this when we meet you.

It is also possible that your insurance may cover this procedure. If you are over the age of forty we will require that you have a mammogram done before the surgery. We also require that you get blood work, and a pregnancy test done. This surgery is done on an outpatient basis. You will come in the morning of surgery and will be able to return home following your procedure.

There are different techniques that are used for breast reduction procedure. The most common of these techniques is the anchor- shaped incision. This incision circles the areola, extends downwards, and follows the natural crease beneath the breast. This new scar is the trade off to having smaller, fuller breast. You will want to take about a week off from work. You are to avoid any heavy lifting and excessive exercise three to four weeks following surgery.
